Samsung has announced that the OLED screens used by the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Z Flip have received a new environmental certification in South Korea. It shows that the company has been taking various steps to ensure that its products are environment-friendly.

The Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Z Flip have received the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certification from the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute for their OLED screens. This certification is awarded to products that are environment-friendly throughout their lifecycle, which includes the manufacturing phase.

The institute studied Samsung Display's carbon emission, water usage during the manufacturing process, the effects on water, and other criteria that go into the production of the OLED panel for three months. At the end of the study, the OLED panels used in the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Z Flip passed seven criteria. The company also said that it has been enforcing various policies related to the environment, society, and governance (ESG) in its manufacturing processes.

The Galaxy Note 20 features a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED Plus rigid display with Full HD+ resolution, a 60Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ certification, Gorilla Glass 5 protection, and S Pen compatibility. The Galaxy Z Flip uses a 6.7-inch foldable Dynamic AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution, a 60Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ certification, and Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) protection.

Recently, Samsung became the first brand in nine years to win the EPA’s (Environmental Protection Agency) prestigious and rare ENERGY STAR Corporate Commitment Award in the US. Samsung Semiconductor also won various environmental sustainability-related awards over the past year.
