Samsung's first Galaxy S Fan Edition smartphone is now more secure in at least one market. The Galaxy S20 FE has received the August 2024 security update in the USA this week.
This is one of those basic updates that includes only security fixes, which is the only kind of update the Galaxy S20 FE is eligible for after four years on the market. The August 2024 security patch fixes 50 vulnerabilities that pose varying levels of risk to Android and Samsung devices. It includes a fix for a critical vulnerability discovered in Android devices a couple of months back.

The August update is out for both unlocked Galaxy S20 FE units and those on Verizon's network. It can be identified by the build numbers G781U1UESIGXG1 and G781VSQSGHXG1 respectively.
It is available over the air and can be downloaded from the phone's Settings » Software update menu. You can, alternatively, download the latest Galaxy S20 FE firmware from the SamMobile firmware library and install it on the phone using a Windows PC and a USB cable.
We expect the update to go live for other carriers in the US and in other parts of the world over the next few days for both the 5G and LTE variants. The Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra may also get a similar update soon.
