The newest security patch for the Galaxy S20 series – dated January 1st, 2021 – started reaching the Snapdragon models from Samsung's flagship series. The rollout began on Sunday, encompassing the unlocked variants of the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and the Galaxy S20 Ultra. This particular security release carries version number G98xU1UES1CTL5.

Sprint and T-Mobile's customers also started receiving the latest security update. This type of over-the-air deployments usually takes a while to complete in order to mitigate the potential strain on a given carrier's network infrastructure.

January 2021 patch likely to hit many more devices in the coming days

With that said, there are ways to speed things up. First of all, try triggering the installation manually by opening your device Settings, tapping Software update, and selecting the Download and install option on the next screen. If that doesn't work and you have the know-how, you can then simply download the full system images from our firmware archives in order to flash them onto your device. Just don't forget to back up your Galaxy S20-series smartphone beforehand.

The January 2021 security patch already started hitting select Galaxy S9-series devices, though we're still waiting for an official changelog bulletin for the new patch from Samsung. The rest of the company's 2020 and 2019 flagships are likely to begin receiving it in the coming days, as well.

And by the time the February security update emerges, we should already be able to buy one of the direct follow-ups to the Galaxy S20 line. As Samsung is pretty much confirmed to be rushing the new flagship series this year.
