Galaxy S21 FE gets better security and stability with October 2022 update

The Galaxy S21 FE has joined the rest of the S21 series in getting the October 2022 security patch. It's the first non-flagship phone to receive the October update, and at the moment, it's rolling out for the SM-G990E variant in India. Other markets will presumably follow suit.

The new update carries firmware version G990EXXU3CVI8. The firmware number tells us this is more than just a routine security patch. However, the changelog is almost barren and only mentions improved security and higher system stability. Details for the October 2022 security patch are also missing, so, at this point, this is a bit of a mystery update for the Galaxy S21 FE. Regardless, it should improve the user experience, so you should probably download it as soon as possible.

Galaxy S21 FE users in India can download the latest update upon receiving the notification or by opening the Settings app on their phones, navigating to “Software update,” and tapping “Download and install.” As usual, we offer official Samsung firmware files on our website, and alternatively, Galaxy S21 FE customers can download those and install the update manually using a PC.

If the October 2022 security update is not available for the Galaxy S21 FE or another Samsung device in your region yet, make sure to keep an eye on our news section. We'll keep you posted as soon as the update expands into more markets.
