The original Galaxy S21 flagship lineup started getting the June 2023 security update this week in some European markets, and now, the Fan Edition Galaxy S21 model is getting it as well. A new update, with firmware version G990U1UES7EWE3, is rolling out for the the Galaxy S21 FE for unlocked units in the US.
This update packs all the security fixes included in the June 2023 security patch for Android and Samsung devices. But unlike the June update for the other Galaxy S21 models, the S21 FE's update doesn't bring any other changes or improvements.
The June 2023 security patch fixes 53 security flaws, three of them critical and the rest being highly important, in the Android operating system. The patch also includes fixes for 11 security vulnerabilities that affect Samsung devices. Three of those vulnerabilities affect devices running Android 11, Android 12, and Android 13 and one of them affects devices powered by Samsung's in-house Exynos chips.
If you own a Galaxy S21 FE, your phone will notify you once the update is available for download. However, that can take a few days so you can skip the wait and check for the update right away by opening the phone's Settings app, entering the Software update submenu, and tapping Download and install. You can also upgrade your phone by downloading the latest firmware from our archive and installing it using a Windows PC.
As mentioned above, the S21's June update is rolling out for unlocked units in the US at this time. It will likely be a few days before carrier-locked variants join the party, and the update is also likely to expand to other markets before the week is over.
