Earlier this week, Samsung released the January 2025 security update to the Galaxy S21 FE in the US. However, the update was only released to the carrier-locked variant of the phone. Now, the update is also available for factory-unlocked models in the USA.
Factory-unlocked Galaxy S21 FE units get January 2025 security update in the USA
The new security update rolling out to the factory-unlocked variant of the Galaxy S21 FE in the USA comes with firmware version G990U1UESEGXL5. The update is also available in Puerto Rico with firmware version G990U1UESEGXL7.
The update brings the January 2025 security update that fixes dozens of security loopholes found in the previous software version. It does not bring any new features or performance enhancements.

How many major updates will Galaxy S21 FE get?
The Galaxy S21 FE was launched in early 2022 with Android 12 onboard. The phone received the Android 13 update later that year and the Android 14 update in late 2023. It is eligible to get the Android 15 (One UI 7.0) update, and that update could arrive in the next couple of months.
Samsung will also release the Android 16 (One UI 8.0) update to the phone, and that update could arrive later this year.
