The Galaxy S23 series was among the first to get the May 2023 security update. The update was also released to the Galaxy S22 series a few days later. And it took a few days more, but the new update is now available to the Galaxy S21 series.
The latest software update for the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra comes with firmware version G99xBXXU7EWE1. It is rolling out in some European countries, including Bulgaria, Hungary, and Switzerland. More countries worldwide could get the update within the next few days. The May 2023 security patch included in the new software fixes over 70 security flaws found in Galaxy smartphones and tablets. It doesn't bring any new notable features to the Galaxy S21 series.
Galaxy S21 May 2023 security update: How to install?
If you have a Galaxy S21 series smartphone and if you live in any of the countries mentioned above, you can now install the new update by heading over to Settings » Software update and tapping Download and install. You can also flash the firmware manually after downloading the appropriate firmware file from our firmware database.
Samsung launched the Galaxy S21 series in early 2021 with Android 11 onboard. The company released the Android 12 update later that year. Late last year, the Galaxy S21 series received the Android 13 update. Later this year, Samsung will release the Android 14 update to the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra.
