Galaxy S23 drop test shows sustainability doesn’t have to compromise durability

One more Galaxy S23 drop test has emerged, testing the durability of the sustainable designs of the three phones in the lineup. Allstate Protection Plans (formerly SquareTrade) has published a video that shows how the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra held up after dropping them on their back and face from a height of six feet.

The drop test results were compared with those of the Galaxy S22 series to see if the durability has been compromised by using sustainable materials.

Samsung managed to use sustainable materials to make Galaxy S23 without affecting their durability

You can see in the video below that the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra were dropped flat two times, once on their face and once on their back, from a height of 6 feet, using a robot called DropBot. To check whether there is any difference between the durability of phones made using sustainable materials and those that aren't, Allstate Protection Plans also dropped the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra.

While all six phones suffered damage on their glass front and rear, the Galaxy S23 Ultra suffered the least damage despite landing on one of its curved edges. After the rear drop, the phone's glass back suffered minor scratches, but the main camera was completely unusable. On its side drop (not featured in the video), the Galaxy S23 Ultra's aluminum frame suffered minor dents.

The Galaxy S23's screen got shattered after the face drop, resulting in raised glass and loose glass. The Galaxy S23+ suffered a cracked screen, with bits and pieces of raised glass. Its Armor Aluminum was damaged, too. However, all three Galaxy S23 series phones were slightly more durable than their predecessors, the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra. It means Samsung made sure that Galaxy S23 phones were just as durable as previous high-end phones despite using sustainable materials.

Best way to protect your Galaxy smartphone is by using a case

To refresh your memory, Galaxy S23 series phones use Gorilla Glass Victus 2, which has some recycled glass. Some parts of the new phones are made using ocean-bound plastic from discarded fishing nets. Allstate Protection Plans says that none of these six phones survived after dropping them on a sidewalk. So, it's best to protect your shiny new high-end phone with a high-quality case and a tempered glass screen protector.

If you're one of those who like to use a phone naked (without a protection case), make sure you buy screen protection and damage protection plans.
