Samsung has launched new versions of its existing smartphones that can tolerate extreme conditions, but you won't be able to buy one. The South Korean giant has launched the Galaxy S23 Tactical Edition and the Galaxy XCover6 Pro Tactical Edition smartphones. The catch is that an average buyer cannot purchase these phones as they will be sold only to the military, first responders, and other physical jobs.

The Galaxy S23 Tactical Edition features the same specs as the original Galaxy S23, such as the 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x screen (with Vision Booster), but now comes with a hard shell. On the other hand, the Galaxy XCover6 Pro Tactical Edition comes with a bigger 6.6-inch screen and a rugged shell that can withstand extreme conditions. However, it isn't just the rugged shell planted on the new Galaxy S23.

Both Tactical Edition phones feature dual VPN chaining for extra security

The Galaxy S23 Tactical Edition has features such as Stealth Mode (which disables 4G) and e-911 (which mutes all radio signals to enable off-grid communication). It also allows for connections with certified 5G networks to avoid connections with security threats. There is a Hypervisor Device Manager that adds an additional layer of security over Samsung Knox, the ability to connect to FirstNet, which is AT&T's nationwide wireless network for the first responders, Covert Lock that restricts the emissions of RF signal, and Night Vision Mode.

Both phones are tested against MIL-STD-810H, and a 1.5m drop test, with an IP68 rating. The Galaxy S23 Tactical Edition and XCover6 Pro Tactical Edition feature a sensitive touchscreen that tracks your fingers without errors. Both phones offer a new range of advanced software improvements based on Android 13. Some other security features include dual VPN chaining, Samsung DeX, the ability to record and prevent outgoing calls, a long-lasting and fast-charging battery, and much more.
