The Galaxy S23 Ultra is Samsung's strongest smartphone yet, featuring an Armor Aluminium frame and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the front and rear. But how does it fare against the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which is covered in Ceramic Shield Glass and has a stainless steel frame? Well, that's precisely what a new video reveals.
Galaxy S23 Ultra is stronger than iPhone 14 Pro Max
Popular YouTube channel PhoneBuff pitted the iPhone 14 Pro Max against the recently released Galaxy S23 Ultra. The test had four rounds of drop tests. In the first round, both phones were dropped flat on their backs. The iPhone's rear glass shattered completely, and a dent appeared on its rear camera lens. The Galaxy S23 Ultra's back cracked slightly near two of its corners.
In the second round, both phones were dropped on a concrete floor. This time, the iPhone performed slightly better, with its stainless steel curved frame showing only a few minor scratches. In comparison, the Galaxy S23 Ultra's sharp aluminum corner suffered more damage. In the third round, both phones were dropped on a concrete floor flat on their faces. The screens on both phones were shattered similarly, but the iPhone's Face ID and the Galaxy S23 Ultra's ultrasonic fingerprint reader still worked perfectly.
In the fourth (bonus) drop test round, both phones were dropped face-down on a metal surface. While both phones looked similar to the previous round when looking at the screen, the iPhone 14 Pro Max's back suffered significant damage. Parts of its protective glass were missing. Moreover, its camera started showing some light flares on the front and rear cameras. When graded across all four rounds, the Galaxy S23 Ultra scored 38 points, two more than the iPhone, winning this drop test by a small margin.
Although the Galaxy S23 Ultra seems like a strong phone, it's still a smartphone covered in glass, and we recommend you buy a high-quality case to protect it from accidental drops.
