It was revealed yesterday that Samsung is working on bringing one more camera option (2x zoom) in the Galaxy S23 Ultra's Portrait mode. Now, the South Korean firm has revealed that it is also trying to extend that option to the video recording mode.
Samsung's software development team has revealed through the company's official forum that the Galaxy S23 Ultra will get a 2x zoom option in video recording mode. This option will reportedly use the center 50MP resolution crop from the primary 200MP ISOCELL HP2 camera sensor, which means it isn't a simple digital crop from the existing frames. Hence, the video recording quality will be much higher.
Galaxy S23 Ultra will get a 2x zoom option in video mode without quality degradation
When users inquired about the video quality in this mode, Samsung's forum moderator claimed that the company's engineers had already evaluated the image quality. So, things like brightness and other aspects of quality won't be affected when using the non-native 2x zoom level while recording videos. Whether or not this feature will be released to the Galaxy S22 Ultra, Galaxy S23, or Galaxy S23+ remains to be seen.
With a future software update, the 2x zoom option in the Video mode will be released to the Galaxy S23 Ultra. However, it is unclear if it will come alongside the 2x zoom in the Portrait mode with the second May 2023 software update. We will report about it once more information about this upcoming feature becomes available.
