A few rumors have claimed that Samsung will launch the Galaxy S24 earlier than usual, and it looks like it is indeed the case. A new report from South Korea confirms that Samsung will launch its next-generation flagship smartphone series in January 2024 to make up for the sluggish performance of its semiconductor chip division.
Galaxy S24 launch date is January 17, 2024
A report from SBS Biz claims that Samsung will launch the Galaxy S24 on January 17, 2024, in San Francisco, USA. The company has reportedly finalized its plans for the launch event, and the preparations have started. It also confirms that the Galaxy S23 FE will be launched in South Korea on December 1, 2023, with a price tag of KRW 800,000 (around $600). It has been three years since the launch of a Fan Edition Galaxy S series smartphone in South Korea. People in South Korea prefer higher-end phones, but Samsung has decided to launch the Galaxy S23 FE as an affordable model due to the ongoing economic downturn and sluggish market.
The South Korean firm is reportedly looking at the Galaxy S24 series as the company's savior amid challenging times. The report claims the Galaxy S24 will be an ‘AI Phone' featuring Generative AI like ChatGPT and Dall-E. Samsung has already announced its in-house Exynos 2400 processor and revealed that it features 30% faster GPU, 70% faster GPU, and 14.7x faster NPU. It can perform on-device AI processing, allowing Generative AI features, such as converting text to image. Samsung is also said to bring a titanium frame to the Galaxy S24 Ultra, similar to the new iPhone 15 Pro series. All devices are rumored to feature Dynamic AMOLED 2x LTPO screens with 2,500 nits peak brightness.
Usually, Samsung launches its new Galaxy S series phones at the end of February each year and starts shipping the phones in early March. However, the company launched the Galaxy S23 in early February and started shipping it before the end of the month. With the Galaxy S24 series, it is launching the phones even earlier (mid-January 2024) and could begin shipping the devices by the end of that month.

Author's Note: Usually, Samsung's semiconductor chip division brings in most of the revenue for the company. However, since the past year, demand for semiconductor chips has fallen due to market slump, which led to terrible sales and lower prices for memory chips. As a result, the overall operating profit of Samsung Electronics fell by 96% in Q1 2023, and its semiconductor division reported the first loss in its history in Q2 2023. Its massive loss was mitigated by solid sales of high-end smartphones, including the Galaxy S23, Galaxy Z Flip 5, and Galaxy Z Fold 5.
While the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 did well during the pre-order period, their sales reportedly dropped to lower-than-expected levels. Hence, to make up for lower sales, Samsung could launch the Galaxy S24 series earlier than usual. It is also a tactic that could be aimed at keeping competition from Apple's iPhone 15 lineup in check.
