The Galaxy S23 Ultra is among the best gaming smartphones of the year. Recent tests have shown that it even outperforms the recently launched iPhone 15 Pro Max in graphics tests, thanks to the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 For Galaxy processor and a decently large vapor chamber. And it looks like the Galaxy S24 Ultra would be an even better gaming device.
The Galaxy S24 Ultra is rumored to come equipped exclusively with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 For Galaxy processor. In Geekbench 6's GPU compute test (Vulkan), the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 scored over 15,000 points. That's 60% higher than the GPU score (9,000 points) of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in the same test. While Geekbench's GPU compute score isn't the most accurate way to test a chip's graphics chops, it shows how much better a chip would be compared to others using the same test.
Leaked Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 specifications
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is expected to be a 4nm octa-core chip made by TSMC. It has one ARM Cortex-X4 CPU core, five ARM Cortex-A720 CPU cores, and two Cortex-A520 CPU cores. It has the Adreno 750 GPU with hardware ray-tracing acceleration. Previous reports claimed the new Qualcomm chip will offer 50% better GPU performance than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
Samsung learned something valuable with the Galaxy S23 series as it offered a large vapor chamber heat dissipation mechanism, and we expect the South Korean firm to improve upon that to provide good sustained performance with the Galaxy S24 series. It remains to be seen how the Exynos 2400 chip performs compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Overheating or a significant performance difference with the Exynos 2400 chip would look bad for the company's reputation.
