Samsung unveiled its latest and best flagship smartphones ever: Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra. All three phones were announced during the Galaxy Unpacked 2024 event and are already available for pre-order in some countries. All three phones are priced differently, and as expected, they have different features, with the Galaxy S24 Ultra having exclusivity over some features. One such feature is its camera flexibility for video recording.
Galaxy S24 Ultra can switch between cameras while recording 4K 60fps videos
The Galaxy S24 Ultra can record 4K 60fps, 4K 120fps, and 8K 30fps videos. While its ability to record 8K videos is limited to the 200MP primary rear camera and the 50MP telephoto camera, 4K 60fps videos can be recorded using all the cameras present on the phone. In fact, you can switch live between all the cameras (front and rear) while recording 4K 60fps videos. This offers greater flexibility while recording previous memories.
This is the first time such flexibility has made it to Samsung phones. Earlier, live switching between cameras was limited to 4K 30fps videos on Samsung's high-end smartphones.
Since this feature is likely dependent on the processor, ISP, and heat dissipation mechanism, it will likely not be available on previous-generation flagship smartphones. This feature is also unavailable on the Galaxy S24 and the Galaxy S24+, which is a little disappointing. However, it is also understandable that the company might keep some of the features exclusive to its most expensive bar phone.
The iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which were launched a few months ago, also have the ability to record 4K 60fps videos using all their cameras and have live switching. Earlier phones lacked the same feature. Even now, most other Android smartphones don't have this feature, and Apple and Samsung are the only ones offering it with their latest flagship phones.
