Earlier today, it was revealed that the Galaxy S24 Ultra is getting an upgraded display. The entire Galaxy S24 series is expected to feature thinner and more power-efficient OLED screens. Along with the upgraded display, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is also getting a massively improved telephoto camera for 3x zoom. More details about the new telephoto camera have leaked.
Galaxy S24 Ultra could have 50MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and bigger sensor
According to tipster Ice Universe (@UniverseIce), the Galaxy S24 Ultra will feature a 50MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. It will reportedly use a bigger 1/2.52-inch camera sensor (could be the ISOCELL GM5) compared to the 1/3.52-inch sensor with 10MP resolution used in the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Thanks to its bigger size and higher resolution, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to offer excellent image quality even at the non-native zoom level of 5x.
This new sensor could also allow the Galaxy S24 Ultra to shoot 8K 30fps videos using the telephoto camera, something that's not possible with Samsung's current phones. The tipster claims that Samsung will heavily market the improved zoom quality of the Galaxy S24 Ultra's camera.
The new camera sensor could also improve image quality at 3x zoom in low-light conditions compared to the Galaxy S23 Ultra and previous Samsung flagships. Whether or not the camera makes it to the base Galaxy S24 and the Galaxy S24+ remains to be seen. But it seems unlikely that Samsung will upgrade the zoom camera on all three Galaxy S24 series phones simultaneously.
Galaxy S24 Ultra leaked specifications
The Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to feature a titanium frame, a brighter OLED panel, a faster processor (Exynos 2400 or Snapdragon 8 Gen 3), a 200MP primary camera, and a 12MP selfie camera. It will reportedly use the same 10MP telephoto camera sensor for 10x optical zoom. It is also expected to feature a 5,000mAh battery with 45W fast charging, similar to its predecessors. It will reportedly feature up to 16GB RAM and up to 1TB storage.
