We are at least six months from the Galaxy S24's launch, but some of its features have already been revealed. It was reported that upcoming high-end phones from Samsung will come in Exynos and Snapdragon variants. Now, it has been revealed that a surprising camera upgrade is waiting for the Galaxy 24 Ultra.
Galaxy S24 Ultra could have a 50MP telephoto camera with 3x zoom
According to reliable tipster Ice Universe (@UniverseIce), the Galaxy S24 Ultra will feature an upgraded telephoto camera sensor. It reportedly uses a 50MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. That's five times the resolution compared to the 3x telephoto camera on the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Looking at the sensor's resolution, the new camera sensor could be bigger than the one on the Galaxy S23 Ultra. A bigger, much higher-resolution sensor can improve the smartphone's image and video quality.
The Galaxy S24 Ultra, with its upgraded zoom camera, should offer much better image and video quality at not just 3x zoom but also at other zoom levels up to 9x. The Galaxy S23 Ultra performs well at its native 3x and 10x zoom levels, but at intermediate zoom levels (from 3.1x to 9.9x), the images appear softer, and the Galaxy S24 Ultra could remedy that situation.
Samsung is expected to use the same 200MP ISOCELL HP2 camera sensor for the Galaxy S24 Ultra's primary camera. It is rumored to bring minor improvements to the 10x telephoto camera. Now, the only thing that remains to be upgraded is the ultrawide camera on Samsung's high-end phones, and a natural upgrade would be to use a 48MP or 50MP sensor for sharper and more detailed ultrawide (and macro) shots.
