Galaxy S24 Ultra display could be even brighter than rumored earlier

Over the past few months, several Galaxy S24 features and specifications have leaked, even though the phone is at least one month away from announcement. Last weekend, some Generative AI features of the Galaxy S24 series were leaked. Now, more information about the display on the Galaxy S24 Ultra has been revealed.

Galaxy S24 Ultra screen to be brighter than iPhone 15 Pro and Pixel 8 Pro

According to a new rumor from tipster Ahmed Qwaider, the Dynamic AMOLED 2x screen on the Galaxy S24 Ultra could have a peak screen brightness of up to 2,600 nits. That's 100 nits higher than some earlier rumors, which claimed that all three phones in the lineup—Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra—will have peak screen brightness of 2,500 nits. This number will likely be achieved while playing certain HDR scenes for a few seconds, though. In comparison, all Galaxy S23 series models have a peak brightness of 1,750 nits in HDR scenes.

If the new information is correct, the Galaxy S24 Ultra will be Samsung's brightest screen ever, and it will be higher than the iPhone 15 Pro's (2,000 nits) and the Google Pixel 8 Pro's (2,400 nits) screens. However, you need to understand that display brightness is not measured on a linear scale. It follows a logarithmic scale, which means 100 nits is not twice the perceived brightness of 200 nits. Similarly, 2,000 nits of screen brightness is not twice as visibly bright as 1,000 nits.

The Galaxy S24 is expected to be officially unveiled on January 17, 2024. It will reportedly be Samsung's first ‘AI Phone,' featuring several AI and Generative AI features. Some of those AI features include AI-generated wallpapers, real-time voice call language translation, text summarization in Samsung Notes, and the ability to expand images by filling in non-existent content that matches the surroundings.
