The Galaxy S24 FE went on sale not long ago, and it is way too early to tell what the Galaxy S25 FE will have in store for us. Assuming one such device even goes on sale next year. However, there are various reports about Samsung's plans for its Exynos chips, and they might offer a window into the future of the Fan Edition smartphone series and particularly the rumored Galaxy S25 FE.

Some rumors (via @chunvn8888) say that Samsung has quietly canceled the Exynos 2500 SoC, seeing how it cannot keep up with the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. As such, the company will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite across the entire Galaxy S25 series worldwide. And if true, this is a mixed bag of news.

It's bad news for Samsung's Exynos division and fans of the Exynos brand (if there are any left). It's good news for Galaxy S25 fans who want Snapdragon chips. And it's kind of bad news for Fan Edition phone buyers, as the Exynos 2500's cancelation leaves the Galaxy S25 FE with few chip options.

Galaxy S25 FE to use the same Exynos 2400 as this year's flagships

Samsung's ongoing Galaxy S24 FE uses a slightly modified version of the Exynos 2400 chip, called Exynos 2400e. The latter is slightly underclocked but performs well enough in our experience.

The story continues after the video

The launch of the Exynos 2400e led to some speculations that the Galaxy S25 FE would use a slightly modified Exynos 2500e SoC. But if there won't be a base Exynos 2500, then there won't be a 2500e variant, either.

As such, some believe that Samsung will use the regular Exynos 2400 chip for the Galaxy S25 FE. That way, the company can still say the Galaxy S25 FE features a more powerful chip than its predecessor. The Exynos 2400 is technically superior to the Exynos 2400e, even if only by a very narrow margin.

Again, it's too early to be sure about the Galaxy S25 FE's future, and some reports indicate that Samsung is still working on the Exynos 2500 chip. Others have also suggested that the Galaxy S25 FE could switch to a MediaTek solution. The future is yet unclear.
