There have been some wild rumors about the Galaxy S25. Apart from a brand new design, Samsung's high-end phones for 2024 are expected to have more powerful chips.
While some rumors suggest that the South Korean firm could drop its in-house chip, others suggest Samsung could even use a MediaTek chip, a first in the company's history.
A new report says at least some Galaxy S25 series devices, powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, could be gaming powerhouses.
Galaxy S25 with Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 could play Genshin Impact at 120fps
According to a new claim (via NotebookCheck) from Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 has AI-powered frame generation technology. This technology is similar to AMD's FSR and Nvidia's DLSS.
With the frame-generation technology, the chip is powerful enough to run Genshin Impact at 1080p resolution and a 120fps frame rate. Flagship phones equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip can run Genshin Impact at 60fps with all graphics settings maxed out.
AI-powered frame generation increases game smoothness but also introduces higher input lag and graphics artifacts. It remains to be seen how Qualcomm handles those issues on its upcoming flagship chip that will be unveiled in October 2024. This technology probably won't work on all games and needs developer integration.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 features Qualcomm's custom Oryon CPU cores and the Adreno 830 GPU (clocked at 935MHz). The chip is reportedly fabricated using TSMC's 3nm process node, and rumors claim it is costlier than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. It remains to be seen if Samsung uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 exclusively for the Galaxy S25 Ultra or brings it to vanilla and Plus variants of the Galaxy S25.
If this chip is as powerful as the rumors claim, the Galaxy S25 series could pave the way for AAA gaming titles (like Assassin's Creed: Mirage and Resident Evil Village) on Android phones the same way the A17 Pro made it happen on the iPhone.
