For the first time, Samsung is expected to launch a ‘Slim' variant of its Galaxy S series phone. The company is rumored to unveil the Galaxy S25 Slim next year. Despite being extremely slim, it is rumored to offer more zoom reach than the Galaxy S25+, thanks to Samsung's new telephoto lens.
Galaxy S25 Slim could use an ALoP telephoto zoom lens
According to a new report, the Galaxy S25 Slim will use Samsung's All Lens on Prism (ALoP) telephoto zoom lens. This new technology, designed by the ISOCELL team, was unveiled last month.
Samsung is planning to showcase it at the CES 2025 expo show floor in Las Vegas, USA early next month.
In an interview a last week, Samsung's Younggyu Jeong (Task Leader) and Minook Kim (Staff Engineer) explained how an ALoP lens works. All lenses are placed on top of a periscope prism. It uses a 40˚tilted prism reflection surface and 10˚ tilted sensor assembly.
Conventional folded zoom lenses can't use wider lenses as that would increase its size and then it wouldn't fit in a smartphone body. In comparison, ALoP can use wider lenses, as lenses are placed horizontally to the smartphone's body. Thus, it won't increase a phone's thickness.
Samsung revealed earlier that its ALoP lens features an F2.58 aperture at a focal length of 80mm (around 3x optical zoom). In comparison, the Galaxy S24 Ultra's conventional folded zoom lens features an F3.4 aperture.
Since an ALoP has a wider aperture and has a slim assembly, it would be a perfect fit for the Galaxy S25 Slim. The phone is rumored to be slimmer than 7mm.
While some rumors claimed that Samsung would unveil the Galaxy S25 Slim at the Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event, One UI 7.0 hints that we might have to wait to hear about it officially. The phone could be launched sometime in Q2 2025.
