Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 could power Galaxy S25 Ultra to iPhone 16 Pro-beating performance

The Galaxy S25 Ultra is expected to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip worldwide, while the Galaxy S25 and the Galaxy S25+ could use the Exynos 2500 or the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, depending on the country. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 was spotted in the Geekbench database for the first time, and it looks like it could help the Galaxy S25 Ultra in beating the iPhone 16 Pro Max in terms of performance.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 Geekbench Score Prototype

As you can see in the image above, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 (used in Qualcomm Reference Design) scored 2,884 points in the single-core test and 8,840 points in the multi-core test in the Geekbench 6 benchmark when paired with 12GB RAM. That is around the same performance levels as the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which scores around 2,900 points in the single-core test and 7,237 points in the multi-core test. These scores are 35% better in the single-core test and 30% better in the multi-core test compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Usually, when new chipsets are tested before being announced, reference devices run non-final software, leading to lower performance. So, by the time the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 lands in an actual device that has launched for consumers and has more than 12GB RAM, its CPU performance can increase by a decent margin.

The iPhone 16 Pro series is rumored to feature a chip that doesn't improve much over its predecessor in terms of CPU performance. So, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4-equipped Galaxy S25 Ultra has a good chance at matching or even beating the iPhone 16 Pro Max in CPU performance.

When it comes to the GPU, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 already beats the iPhone 15 Pro Max's 6-core GPU in graphics processing performance. So, the Adreno 830 GPU inside the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will likely continue its winning streak and be able to defeat Apple's upcoming chip in graphics performance.

What how the Galaxy S24 Ultra and its Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 For Galaxy chip performance in our video review below.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 reportedly features two high-performance Oryon CPU cores clocked at 4.09GHz or higher and six power-efficient CPU cores clocked at 2.78GHz. It has the Adreno 830 GPU with all the modern gaming features. The chipset is reportedly fabricated on TSMC's 3nm process node (N3E or N3P).

What to expect from Galaxy S25 Ultra?

The Galaxy S25 Ultra is expected to come equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 For Galaxy chip, up to 16GB RAM, and up to 1TB storage. It is rumored to feature a brand-new design with a more rounded back and a titanium frame. It could have a 200MP primary rear camera, a 50MP ultrawide camera, a 50MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, and a 50MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom.

The Galaxy S25 and the Galaxy S25+ could use the Exynos 2500 chip in most markets. In a rare move, Samsung unveiled the chip's name months before its launch. Even the Exynos 2500 is a 3nm chip, but it is fabricated on Samsung Foundry's second-generation 3nm process (SF3). It is expected to feature one Cortex-X5 CPU core clocked at 3.2GHz, three Cortex-A730 CPU cores running at 2.3GHz, two Cortex-A730 CPU cores, and four Cortex-A520 cores clocked at 2.2GHz. It uses the RDNA-based Xclipse 950 GPU.
