While recent phones from Chinese brands are coming packed with significantly higher capacity batteries, Samsung stuck to regular 4,000mAh to 5,000mAh batteries for the Galaxy S25 series. However, it could finally be ready to move to beefier batteries with the Galaxy S26 series next year.

Galaxy S26 series could use Silicon Carbon batteries for higher capacity

According to a report from FNNews (via @jukanlosreve), Samsung is reviewing a plan to introduce Silicon Carbon batteries with its next Galaxy S series phones. Apparently, it could bring a 6,000mAh battery with the Galaxy S26 series. This is excellent news for Galaxy fans who have been waiting for Samsung to introduce high-capacity batteries.

Silicon Carbon batteries, which use silicon material, pack higher capacity than regular batteries that use graphite-based cathode materials. However, Samsung did not use that technology due to the high risk of expansion and higher production costs.

A Samsung Electronics official reportedly told FNNwes, “If silicon anode material is used, the capacity increases, but there is a lifespan issue, so improvement is necessary. It has not been confirmed, but we are studying various improvement measures.

Some Chinese tipsters have claimed that the Galaxy S26 series will indeed use Silicon Carbon batteries. They also reportedly claim that Apple is working on similar technologies, and the first iPhone that uses them could be launched in 2026.

Watch our hands-on experience of the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra in the videos below.

If Samsung uses a 6,000mAh battery inside the Galaxy S26 Ultra, charging speeds could see an improvement. The company usually aims to keep 0-100% battery charging times to around an hour. To charge a 6,000mAh battery within an hour, the company could increase the charging speed to 65W.

A move to Silicon Carbon batteries could increase the Galaxy S26 battery capacity to 4,500mAh and the Galaxy S26+ battery capacity to 5,500mAh. It would be great if Samsung brought the Galaxy S26 Edge with a 4,500mAh or 5,000mAh battery.
