Galaxy S8 and S8+ August security update rolling out in Canada

The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are receiving a software update with the August 2019 security patch in Canada. The Galaxy S8 and S8+ are the last of Samsung's flagship phones on a monthly security update schedule to be getting the August security update. The Galaxy Note 10, Galaxy S10e/S10/S10+, Galaxy S9/S9+, Galaxy Note 9, and Galaxy Note 8 have all been updated with the latest security patch in some markets.

According to users on Reddit, the update brings nothing other than security fixes, which isn't the least bit surprising as the Galaxy S8 and S8+ have now been on the market for almost 2.5 years. The S8 and S8+ did, however, get a new camera feature recently: Point-and-shoot QR scanner functionality that removes the need for Bixby Vision and third-party apps for scanning QR codes. The Galaxy S8 duo are not eligible to get any more major Android OS upgrades and will only get security updates for the remainder of their official support period.

The Galaxy S8 update rolling out in Canada is available over the air on all major carriers. You can download it on your phone from the Settings » Software update menu. Updates are released in stages, so you may have to try downloading it again at a later time. You can also skip the queue and upgrade by flashing the relevant firmware (version G95*WVLS6CSH1) on your S8 or S8+.
