Galaxy SmartTag 3

TL;DR

  • Galaxy SmartTag 3 now supports iPhone via SmartThings, but several key features are unavailable on iOS.
  • iPhone users can still check location, share location, view history, and use Search Nearby.
  • Full functionality, including Compass View, Ring Phone, and Left Behind alerts, requires a Galaxy phone and limited Bluetooth Channel Sounding support.

The Galaxy SmartTag 3 went on sale in Korea on October 7 and was scheduled for a USA launch in early November. The SmartTag 3 brings several improvements over the previous model, but perhaps the most unexpected addition is iPhone compatibility.

The SmartTag 3 is Samsung's first location tracker to bring iOS support, but there is a catch. The core features will be available for iPhone users through the SmartThings app, but some features are missing altogether. Those are:

  • Compass View: Provides on-screen directional tracking with improved range through Bluetooth Channel Sounding. The latter is available on a very limited number of Galaxy devices.
  • Ring Phone: Normally, you can press the Galaxy SmartTag button to ring your connected phone and find its location nearby.
  • Left Behind Alert: Your Galaxy SmartTag 3 can send a notification to your phone whenever you leave the tracker behind.

Thankfully, iPhone users can at least enjoy more basic SmartTag 3 features such as:

  • Checking the SmartTag 3 location.
  • Sharing the tracker's current location.
  • Location history.
  • Search Nearby.

However, if you want to take advantage of everything the Galaxy SmartTag 3 is capable of, you'll need not only a Galaxy phone but one of the only four models that currently support Bluetooth Channel Sounding.

Samsung will release the Galaxy SmartTag 3 in the USA in early November for $29.99. A four-pack will also be available for $99.99.

Beyond Korea and the USA, Samsung will start offering the Galaxy SmartTag 3 in other markets beginning in early 2027.
