Samsung unveils lighter, smaller Galaxy SmartTag 3 with iOS support

Samsung has launched a new iteration of its smart tracker today, with one key upgrade. The GalaxySmartTag 3 now brings cross-OS compatibility, which means it now works with iOS devices as well.

This is the first time in the Galaxy SmartTag lineup that the tracker is able to work with non-Android devices.

The Galaxy Smart Tag 3 has a smaller and lighter design will also providing longer-range finding and faster location updates through the Galaxy Find Network. Pro-active alerts have also been expanded.

The iOS support is a major addition to the device. It provides access to core finding and sharing features on iOS devices, thus making it possible for families and groups who may use different devices to utilize the potential of the SmartTag 3. The SmartThings Find network makes it possible for users to check and share a tag's location.

With Search Nearby, users can easy pinpoint the location of the items being tracked with the SmartTag 3. Samsung also highlights that its latest tracker offers industry-leading battery life, with up to 550 days under standard usage and up to 790 days in Power Saving Mode.

Compass View range has been expanded with this device, allowing users to narrow in on the location of an item from farther away. With Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding and Ultra Wide Band (UWB), it can provide distance and directional guidance from up to 60 meters away, that's 4x farther than the outgoing generation.

There's also a new Place Notification feature which will alert users if a tagged item, such as a vehicle or pet, moves in or out of a defined area.

The new tracker will have a couple of official accessories that allow you to attach it to your keys or to your pet. There will be third-party cases, too, which can be used to attach the Galaxy SmartTag 3 to a bicycle.

Samsung will offer the Galaxy SmartTag 3 in Black and White colors, in the near future. Pricing and details will be confirmed soon. Samsung has only confirmed as yet that the device will first be released in South Korea only on October 7.
