Samsung unveiled a new rugged tablet—Galaxy Tab Active 5—two months ago. Its pricing was unveiled last month and was supposed to go on sale at the end of March 2024, but it is now available for purchase in the USA. It is priced at $548.99 and is available through Samsung.com and for select channel partners. It is available in LTE and 5G variants.
The Galaxy Tab Active 5 is made for people who work in the field or in tough conditions. It is available in standard and enterprise editions. The enterprise edition of the tablet comes with an additional year of warranty (on top of the standard one-year warranty) and the complimentary Knox Suite, which makes it easier for companies to analyze, deploy, manage, and secure the devices offered to their employees. It also comes with five years of security updates for enhanced reliability and security.
Galaxy Tab Active 5 features
The Galaxy Tab Active 5 has an 8-inch LCD screen with Full HD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The body of the device has a rugged design, featuring an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance and MIL-STD-810G compliance for drop and shock resistance. The tablet also comes with an S Pen that is IP68-rated and an Active Key for quick access to desired apps or features. Samsung claims that the Galaxy Tab Active 5 is resistant to drops on concrete surfaces from a height of around 8 feet. It also features physical UI navigation buttons and a fingerprint reader.
The device comes equipped with the Exynos 1380 processor, 6GB RAM, 128GB storage, and a microSD card slot. It runs Android 14-based One UI 6.0 and will get four major Android OS updates and five years of security updates. There is a 5MP camera on the front and a 13MP camera with autofocus on the rear. The rear-facing camera can record 4K 30fps videos, while the one on the front is limited to 1080p 30fps.
Samsung has equipped the Galaxy Tab Active 5 with GPS, 4G/5G (depending on the model), a dual-SIM card slot (physical nano-SIM + eSIM), Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The device is powered by a 5,050mAh battery with 15W fast wired charging. It has pogo pins for charging or attaching it to docking stations. The tablet also features support for CBRS (Citizens Broadband Radio Service) for private network compatibility and instant PTT (Push-To-Talk).
