Multiple reports have prophesized that Samsung has three versions of the Galaxy Tab S8 in store for us: the Galaxy Tab S8, Galaxy Tan S8+ and the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra. Galaxyclub.nl has heard that there could be a fourth, watered-down variant in the works, too. Unsurprisingly, it will be called the Galaxy Tab S8 Lite.
Very little is known about the Galaxy Tab S8 Lite, at this point, but it is expected to bear the SM-X50* model number, where the asterisk changes according to parameters such as region, type of modem, etc. The report also states that the Galaxy Tab S8 Lite could be called the Galaxy Tab S8 FE.
Galaxy Tab S8 Lite could be launched later in 2022
The Galaxy Tab S8 Lite/FE, could, in all likelihood, be launched later in the year. It makes little fiscal sense for Samsung to undercut its own offerings, especially at a time when its tablet business is in the doldrums. Hence, we could see the Galaxy S8 Lite in action sometime in Q3/Q4 2022.
As far as the Galaxy S8 Lite's innards are concerned, it is unlikely to use the Galaxy Tab S8's chipset, which, at this point, could be anything. Rumour has it that the crème de la crème Exynos 2200 will be reserved for the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, so the remaining variants could settle for a lower-tier Snapdragon or Exynos SoC.
Our Galaxy Tab S7 FE review found the tablet to be competent, but it didn't quite hit the mark. We hope that Samsung improves upon its shortcomings and brings it on par with other Fan Edition devices. A good place to start would be to ditch the notched display slated for the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra.
