Samsung has just unveiled a new series of Fan Edition tablets. Much to our expectations, the company didn't settle with just one new FE tablet but announced two on the same day. They are the Galaxy Tab S9 FE and Tab S9 FE+, and they both feature upgraded cameras.
You can argue that rear-facing cameras are unimportant for a tablet. Granted, augmented reality applications exist and rely on fancy camera hardware, but these AR use cases are relatively niche. However, we're not talking about the primary cameras today, but rather the selfie sensor.
Front-facing cameras are used way more often on tablets than rear-facing sensors, thanks to video calling and conferencing. We're happy to report that the Galaxy Tab S9 FE series has an upgraded selfie shooter that Samsung may have borrowed from its Galaxy Tab S9 flagship trio.

4K selfie recording and video conferencing with auto-framing
Like the high-end Galaxy Tab S9, the new Fan Edition tablets feature an ultra-wide selfie camera with a resolution of 12 megapixels. And like the front-facing sensor employed by the flagship tablets, this 12MP camera on the Tab S9 FE and Tab S9 FE+ has 4K video recording and auto-framing capabilities.
With auto-framing, the Galaxy Tab S9 FE's selfie camera can adjust the frame and zoom to track the main subjects and keep them in view. It's a clever AI-driven feature that can come in handy in video calls.
Samsung appears to have designed its latest Fan Edition tablets in a way that gives buyers some flagship-grade features without asking them to spend money on a flagship device. The selfie camera appears to be one of the areas in which the Tab S9 FE excels and punches above its weight class.
Prices for the Galaxy Tab S9 FE start at $449 / €529, and Samsung will release the series in select markets on October 10.
