Samsung's One UI Watch 5 update debuted with the Galaxy Watch 6 series earlier this year and slowly made its way onto the Galaxy Watch 4 and 5 lineups. Older smartwatches that run Tizen OS will never get this update, but on the bright side, Samsung confirmed a few months ago that the Galaxy Watch 3 and Active 2 would get some of the latest watch faces.
That time has finally come, at least for the Galaxy Watch 3. A new update is rolling out, and it brings two new watch faces borrowed from the latest version of One UI: Stretched Time and Perpetual.
The update carries firmware versions R840XXU1DWK2 / R850XXU1DWK2 and is rolling out in Europe. Tizen OS remains unchanged at version 5.5.0.2.
This might be the last feature update
The Galaxy Watch Active 2 doesn't seem to have received these new watch faces yet, but it should eventually – maybe with its next firmware.
These two Tizen watches have aged gracefully, but they have aged nonetheless. And although Samsung said it will support them for at least three years, time's closing in on them. The Galaxy Watch 2 Active debuted in 2019, and the Watch 3 followed a year later.
These two watch faces borrowed from One UI Watch 5 might be the last features these older smartwatches receive, but we won't know with certainty until the Galaxy Watch 7 lineup arrives next year.
For now, if you want to update the Galaxy Watch 3, you can open the Samsung Wearable app on the connected phone, access “Watch settings,” go to “Watch software update,” and tap “Download and install.”
