Samsung has finally made the Samsung Health Monitor app available in India (via @YashRathoreX). With this release, all the smartwatches from the company that feature blood pressure measurement and ECG on a hardware level should get the feature activated soon. The Galaxy Watch 4 and the Galaxy Watch 5 are among the first smartwatches from Samsung to have received that ability with the new software update.
Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 5 series get blood pressure and ECG measurement features in India via Samsung Health Monitor
An 11.67MB software update bearing firmware version R9xxFXXU1BWL1 has been released to the Galaxy Watch 5 series, and some users have started getting the update in India. It activates blood pressure and ECG measurement features in the smartwatches in the lineup. The Galaxy Watch 4 series is also getting a 517MB update with firmware version R8xxXXU1HWL1 in India, and it brings compatibility with the Samsung Health Monitor app, which means Galaxy Watch 4 series users in India can now measure blood press and ECG using their smartwatches.
However, note that the Galaxy Watch 4 or Galaxy Watch 5 are not intended to be used as medical devices, as the accuracy of blood pressure and ECG will not have clinical-grade accuracy. Moreover, users need to calibrate their smartwatches with a proper blood pressure monitor to get closer to accurate readings.
With these updates, Samsung has finally activated blood pressure monitoring and ECG features on its existing smartwatches in India. A future update could extend this functionality to the Galaxy Watch 6 and the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic in the country.
