Galaxy Watch 4 vs Galaxy Watch: It’s finally time to upgrade

Ever since it was released in 2018, the original Galaxy Watch has remained a fan-favourite. It was much loved for its physical rotating bezel and new fitness features. It wouldn't actually get a true successor until last year's Galaxy Watch 3. Samsung has now brought us the latest iteration of its Galaxy Watch.

The Galaxy Watch 4 represents a major leap forward for Samsung's smartwatches. It also goes to show just how much better the company's smartwatches have become over the year.

Galaxy Watch 4 vs Galaxy Watch

The original Galaxy Watch was offered in 42mm and 46mm sizes with a 1.2-inch and 1.3-inch display. The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, one of the two new models to have a physical rotating bezel, is also available in 42mm and 46mm sizes with a 1.19-inch and 1.36-inch display. However, it's more compact, thin and light compared to the original model.

You'll find the biggest differences under the hood. The Galaxy Watch 4 series uses Samsung's new Exynos W920 processor. The CPU and GPU boast 1.25x and 8.8x improvements compared to the Exynos 9110 in the Galaxy Watch. The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic also has 1.5GB of RAM and four times the internal storage at 16GB.

All of the health and fitness features released on smartwatches after the Galaxy Watch arrived are present on the latest models. They also bring additional features such as body composition analysis, sleep tracking with snoring detection, continuous blood oxygen saturation monitoring and more.

The Galaxy Watch 4 series doesn't use Tizen like the original model. It runs on the Android-based Wear OS instead. This will enable users to download Android apps on their smartwatch, something that hasn't been possible on Samsung's smartwatches for quite a few years.

Simply going by the list of improvements alone, one can reasonably say that it's now time for those who are still holding on to the 2018 model to upgrade to the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic (or the regular Galaxy Watch 4 if you're not a huge fan of the physical rotating bezel).

Check out the full Galaxy Watch 4 Classic vs Galaxy Watch comparison down below. We'll also have a full review of the Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic up for you in the not too distant future.
