Samsung has finally unveiled two new smartwatches: Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. Both smartwatches run Wear OS and use the same processor, memory, and storage. They even feature the same activity and health tracking features, but they do have some differences, including the way they look and how they are built. Let us compare them to see how they are different.
The Galaxy Watch 4 comes in 40mm and 44mm variants, while the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic comes in 42mm and 46mm variants. The 40mm version of the Galaxy Watch 4 and the 42mm version of the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic have 1.19-inch displays (396 x 396 pixels), while the 44mm version of the Galaxy Watch 4 and the 46mm version of the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic have 1.36-inch displays (450 x 450 pixels). All smartwatch models use circular Super AMOLED displays with a pixel density of 330ppi and up to 1,000 nits brightness.
Galaxy Watch 4 vs Galaxy Watch 4 Classic: It mostly comes down to design
The Galaxy Watch 4 features an aluminum case, while the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic uses a stainless steel case. Both smartwatches come with silicone bands that can be easily replaced with any standard 20mm strap. These devices also feature an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance (up to 5 ATM). The smaller-sized variants of these two smartwatches are powered by a 247mAh battery, while the larger ones use a 361mAh battery. However, Samsung is promising 40-hour battery life for all the Galaxy Watch 4 variants.
Samsung has equipped both its smartwatches with the Exynos W920 processor, 1.5GB RAM, and 16GB internal storage. The Exynos W920 chipset is made using a 5nm process and features 1.25x faster processing and up to 10x smoother graphics performance compared to the Exynos 9110 chipset that was used in the Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Watch Active, Galaxy Watch Active 2, and the Galaxy Watch 3.
Both devices run One UI Watch 3 on top of Wear OS 3. They can run Wear OS apps that are available on the Play Store, and they come with several attractive watch faces. You can choose between Bixby and Google Assistant as your favorite AI-powered digital voice assistant. The smartwatches also let you pay via Google Pay or Samsung Pay.
The Galaxy Watch 4 and the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic feature an accelerometer, barometer, compass, GPS, gyro, heart-rate monitor, and ECG. Both new smartwatches can track activities, SpO2 levels, sleep, stress, and workouts. They also feature body fat composition measurement and fall detection. Both new smartwatches feature dual-band Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, a loudspeaker, a microphone, and Qi wireless charging.
