Samsung has released the newest security update to the Galaxy Watch 5 and the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. The December 2023 security patch is now available to the smartwatches, and it could soon be released to the company's other Wear OS-based smartwatches as well.
The last security update of the year is now available for the Galaxy Watch 5 with firmware version R910XXU1BWL1 and for the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro with firmware version R920XXU1BWL1. According to Samsung's security bulletin, the December 2023 security patch fixes dozens of security flaws discovered in the previous software version. Some of those are related to the Exynos chipset used in the company's smartwatches. Samsung has likely included security patches from the past couple of months in the new update.
The Galaxy Watch 5 and the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro were launched last year with Wear OS 4 onboard, and the One UI 5 Watch was released a few months ago. That update brought a lot of new features, including updates to the stock apps and improvements to health and fitness tracking. It also brought new watch faces, improved Tiles, improved widgets, and the ability to switch to a new phone without formatting the smartwatch.
Samsung has promised to release four major Wear OS and One UI Watch updates to the Galaxy Watch 5 series. So, you can expect three more major updates to hit the smartwatch series in the future.
