Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Watch 7 at its Galaxy Unpacked event today. This new-generation Galaxy Watch succeeds last year's Galaxy Watch 6 and brings more accurate fitness and health tracking, a much faster processor, higher storage, and more features.
It also launched the Galaxy Watch Ultra, but in this article, we will take a look at what is new and improved with the Galaxy Watch 7.
Galaxy Watch 7 has a new sensor and dual-frequency GPS for more accurate health tracking
The Galaxy Watch 7 brings more accurate fitness and health tracking accuracy in a familiar design. It looks like the Galaxy Watch 6, except for the two stitched accents on the watch strap.
It uses a new-generation BioActive Sensor to measure blood oxygen levels, blood pressure, body composition, heart rate, and stress levels. Samsung says heart rate accuracy during intensive workouts has improved by 30% compared to the Galaxy Watch 6.
The new smartwatch, similar to previous-generation Galaxy Watches, can analyze your body composition, measure electrocardiograph (ECG), and track your sleep. It can notify you of irregularly low or high heart rates.
The Galaxy Watch 7 can also measure your Advanced Glycation End Products (AGEs) index. AGEs indicate metabolic health and biological aging, which largely depends on your dietary habits and lifestyle. The AGEs index shows your biological age and helps you make informed decisions regarding your health and habits.
The smartwatch can also detect Sleep Apnea. The De Novo FDA-authorized feature provides a simple tool to check signs of sleep apnea, a severe breathing disorder that can cause breathing to stop or become shallower, forcing the brain to wake you enough and causing restless sleep.
As usual with any Galaxy Watch, the Galaxy Watch 7 can measure over 100 workouts. The new feature called Race can measure your current running performance compared to previous personal records. The new dual-frequency GPS allows for more accurate tracking of outdoor workouts like cycling, running, and walking.
Exynos W1000 brings huge performance boost
The Galaxy Watch 7 is equipped with Samsung's new wearable chipset, the Exynos W1000. This chip is the world's first non-Apple 3nm chipset and is fabricated by Samsung Foundry.
It has a five-core CPU featuring one Cortex-A78 core and four Cortex-A55 cores. Samsung claims it can launch apps 2.7x faster and is 30% more power efficient. The processor is paired with 2GB RAM and 32GB storage.
The smartwatch comes in two sizes: 40mm and 44mm. It is also available in Bluetooth and Bluetooth + LTE variants. The 40mm version is available in Green and Cream colors, while the 44mm version comes in Green and Silver color variants. It is compatible with standard watch straps.
It is an IP68-rated device for dust and water resistance. It is water resistant up to 5ATM pressure and has a MIL-STD-810H-compliant design for shock resistance.
The 40mm version has a 1.3-inch Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 432 x 432 pixels, while the 44mm version has a 1.5-inch Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 480 x 480 pixels. Both variants can reach a peak brightness of up to 2,000 nits. It also supports improved full-color Always On Display mode.
The smartwatch has dual-frequency (L1 + L5) GPS, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 5.3, and NFC. The 40mm version has a 300mAh battery, while the 44mm version has a 425mAh battery. It supports fast wireless charging with the supplied magnetic charging puck.
One UI Watch 6 brings Galaxy AI to Galaxy Watch 7
The Galaxy Watch 7 runs One UI Watch 6, which is based on Wear OS 5. It brings Galaxy AI-powered features to the smartwatch. Galaxy AI also offers suggested replies based on your messaging history. Samsung Health uses Galaxy AI and health data to offer you personalized health tips.
Energy Score is a new feature that helps you understand your daily health condition. Not all days are the same. On some days, you feel energetic, while on other days, you may feel tired or restless.
Looking at your average sleep time and quality, heart rate variability, and sleeping heart rate, the Galaxy Watch 7 gives you an Energy Score. You can then decide if it is safe to work out that day. However, this feature will also come to previous-generation Galaxy Watches with the One UI 6 Watch update.
Moreover, One UI Watch 6 offers more accurate and detailed sleep tracking, Aerobic Threshold (AT) / Anaerobic Threshold (AnT) Heart Rate Zone information, and Functional Threshold Power (FTP) during cycling.
You can also create Workout Routine, which comprises several workouts you want to perform in a sequence.
A new double pinch gesture can be used for quick actions like dismissing the alarm, playing/pausing music, answering calls, and scrolling through notifications.
The Galaxy Watch 7 will be available for pre-order starting today (at least in many important markets) and available in stores starting July 24, 2024. You can see its pricing, pre-order date, and in-store availability date in this article.
