Samsung brings seamless updates to its most recent Galaxy Watches

Samsung brought major performance and comfort upgrades to the Galaxy Watch 9 and the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. On the software side, the wearables debuted with One UI 9 Watch. This new version introduces a slightly tweaked design and fresh features, alongside a much less disruptive installation process.

The Galaxy Watch 9 and the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 recently received their first firmware release, revealing that both models support the Seamless Updates feature initially introduced on Galaxy smartphones a couple of years ago.

The recent rollout for the Galaxy Watch 9 and the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 had a download size of around 200MB and included the August 2026 security patch.

When new software arrives on these smartwatches, it installs in the background, allowing you to continue using the device without interruption. The new build is then kept ready to apply upon rebooting. Compared to the previous installation method, this restart takes significantly less time.

Because seamless updates must be supported at the storage partition level from a device's initial launch, older Galaxy Watches will not gain this functionality through the upcoming One UI 9 Watch rollout.
