A few months ago, Samsung released the One UI 5 Watch update to its Wear OS-based smartwatches. The update brought new watch faces to Galaxy Watch 4 and newer watch faces. Two of those watch faces were released for the Galaxy Watch 3 a few days ago, and they've now reached the Galaxy Watch Active 2.
The Galaxy Watch Active 2 is now getting a new software update with firmware version R820XXU1FWK2 (Wi-Fi-only) or R825FXXU1EWK2 (LTE). It doesn't bring any new features or performance improvements, but it does bring two new watch faces that debuted with One UI Watch 5. Those new watch faces are Perpetual and Stretched Time. As you can see in the image below, both are analog watch faces with several customization options through colors, dials, and complications.
The new update is hitting the Galaxy Watch Active 2 in most countries worldwide. However, it might reach a few weeks later in some markets, depending on the region. To check for the new update, head over to the Galaxy Wearable app on your paired smartphone, select the Galaxy Watch Active 2 from the hamburger menu on the left side, navigate to Watch settings » Watch software update, and tap Download and install.
Samsung launched the Galaxy Watch Active 2 way back in 2019 with Tizen OS 4.0.06 onboard. The devices received the Tizen 5.5.0.1 update in September 2020 and the Tizen 5.5.0.2 update in January 2021. It has been on the same operating system version since but has received several new features.
If you want to get more features, we recommend you upgrade to the Galaxy Watch 6, and you can see its review in our video below.
