Two months ago, it was revealed that Samsung might be working on a new rugged smartphone that could replace the Galaxy XCover 5. A few days ago, the first set of images of the Galaxy XCover 7 were leaked, revealing the phone's design and possible features. Now, some of its most important specifications have been revealed.
Galaxy XCover 7 has MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ processor
The Galaxy XCover 7, featuring model number SM-G556B, was spotted (via MySmartPrice) in Geekbench's database. The upcoming rugged smartphone appears to be using a mid-range processor from MediaTek, so it looks like it will be a mid-range smartphone. According to Geekbench, the Galaxy XCover 7 uses a MediaTek processor with two high-performance CPU cores clocked at 2.2GHz and six power-efficient CPU cores clocked at 2GHz. Looking at the model number, it is a 5G smartphone, so it should have a 5G chipset. That leads us to believe that the Galaxy XCover 7 could use the MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ processor.
This chipset was also found in the Galaxy A15 5G leaked recently. It is a 6nm processor fabricated by TSMC, and it can be seen as a 5G version of the MediaTek Helio G99. It has two ARM Cortex-A76 CPU cores clocked at 2.2GHz, six ARM Cortex-A55 CPU cores clocked at 2GHz, and the ARM Mali-G57 MC2 GPU. The phone also features 6GB RAM and the Android 14 (One UI 6.0) operating system. Its leaked images show that it has a more bezel-less screen than the Galaxy XCover 5.
Looking at the phone's specifications, the timeline of its appearances, and the operating system version, it seems like Samsung could launch the Galaxy XCover 7 sometime in the first quarter of 2024. The phone also features a rugged body, so expect an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance and an MIL-STD-810 G-compliant design for shock resistance. It also has an additional hardware button, likely for PTT (Push To Talk) functionality.
