It still doesn't bring Android 16 to the mixed-reality headset.

Samsung has released a massive new software update for the Galaxy XR, its first mixed reality headset. The update comes shortly after the launch of the headset in the UK. While the update is large, Samsung hasn’t mentioned any new features. It also doesn’t upgrade the Galaxy XR to Android 16.
The update comes with firmware version I610UEU2AZF3 and has a download size of around 1.5GB. It is available in all the countries where the headset is officially sold. Despite its large file size, the official changelog mentions only improved security. However, based on Samsung’s track record and firmware versioning, this update likely includes more than just security patches.
Even though it is being released in July, the new Galaxy XR update still includes the June 2026 security patch. Hopefully, by the time Samsung launches its first smart glasses in the second half of this year, the Galaxy XR will receive the latest version of Android XR.
Since Google and Samsung are preparing to launch the world’s first Android XR-powered smart glasses, they could be getting a major update to the Android XR platform ready. The Galaxy XR could receive a software update based on that newer version in the coming months.
