Earlier this week, Samsung released the May 2023 security update to several Galaxy Z series phones, including the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and the Galaxy Z Fold 4. However, the update was released only to the unlocked variants of the foldable phones. Yesterday, the update was released to the carrier-locked versions in the US. Today, the new security update is available to the global versions of the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4.
Galaxy Z Flip 4, Galaxy Z Fold 4 May 2023 security update: What's new?
The May 2023 security update comes with firmware version F721BXXS2CWD9 for the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and F936BXXS2CWD9 for the Galaxy Z Fold 4. The update is currently available in the Latin American region, but we expect it to expand to more regions globally within the next few days. The May 2023 security patch included in this new software update brings fixes for over 70 security flaws found in Samsung phones. Some of those flaws were marked as critical, so we are glad that they've been fixed to make the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4 more secure and reliable.
If you have a Galaxy Z Flip 4 or Z Fold 4, you can download the new update by heading over to Settings » Software update and tapping Download and install. You can also download the new firmware file from our firmware database and flash it manually. Both phones were launched with Android 12 onboard and have received the Android 13 update. They will get three more OS updates in the future, starting with Android 14 later this year.
