The unannounced Galaxy Z Flip 5 is making it back into the headlines, this time, not because of leaked specifications or press renders but due to an actual live photo that seems to have captured the next-gen foldable flip phone in the wild. Is this the real Galaxy Z Flip 5?
The photo embedded in the tweet below (via @Tech_Reve) shows what appears to be the Galaxy Z Flip 5 wrapped in a protective case. The latter has strange markings and doesn't seem to fit the phone all that well, seeing how it sags around the camera cutouts. It looks more like one of those cases that are not meant to be sold but are used to keep pre-production phones safe from damage and prying eyes.
The alleged Galaxy Z Flip 5 captured in this photo sits next to a BMW keyfob, which doesn't add or take away credibility, but nevertheless seems appropriate given Samsung's recent dealings with the Bavarian carmaker.
As for the details revealed by the photo, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 appears to have a side-mounted fingerprint sensor embedded in the side key, a flat hinge, and the folder-shaped cover screen we've all seen in renders before. The cover screen shows a circular Always-On Display clock.
When and where?
There's no information as to when and where this photo of the alleged Galaxy Z Flip 5 was captured, but what we believe we know is when and where Samsung will officially unveil the device.
Unlike in previous years, Samsung will host its next Unpacked event in South Korea. Reports say the company will announce the phone at COEX in the luxurious Gangnam district on July 27. Indeed, Samsung is changing its schedule and will host the next Unpacked earlier than usual.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 won't be alone on stage. It should be accompanied by the Galaxy Z Fold 5, the Galaxy Tab S9 series, and the Galaxy Watch 6 wearables. Samsung may or may not also unveil its first mixed-reality headset to compete with Apple's.
But back to the Galaxy Z Flip 5, the next-gen model represents a significant leap in design for the foldable flip phone series, as it is the first to increase the size of the cover screen to this extent.
