Samsung will soon launch its fifth-generation Galaxy Z Flip smartphone, the Galaxy Z Flip 5. However, the company will have to face competition from one more Android smartphone maker. After Lenovo-owned Motorola, OPPO, and Vivo, now Xiaomi is reportedly planning to launch a flip-style foldable phone.
Xiaomi's first flip phone is rumored to be extremely thin and light
Tipster Digital Chat Station has revealed (via Android Authority) that Xiaomi is working on a flip-style smartphone with a foldable inner display. The phone could be similar to the Galaxy Z Flip 5. However, it is expected to be something much smaller than other flip phones available in the market. The company has already launched some of the slimmest foldable phones in the Xiaomi MIX lineup, and that could continue with its flip smartphones as well.
The report suggests that Xiaomi's first flip phone will be extremely thin and light. Given the physical size, the company may end up compromising on the cover screen, camera, or battery size if it wants to make the thinnest flip phone on the market. It would also be curious to see if the phone would be a proper high-end device with the latest processor or an upper mid-range phone with a mid-range chipset like the Motorola Razr 40.
It would also be interesting to see if Xiaomi launches the phone globally or keeps it exclusive to the Chinese market as it usually does. Design, performance, and pricing will play a major role in the success of Xiaomi's upcoming flip phone. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is bringing a huge cover display, an IP58 dust and water resistance rating, and the latest high-end processor.
