Samsung has released the first software update to the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 in the US. While the phones have just started reaching customers, Samsung has already started to make things better for its newest foldable phones with a new security update. International versions of the phones have already received the August 2023 security update.
Galaxy Z Flip 5, Z Fold 5 August 2023 security update: What's new?
The carrier-locked version of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 has started getting its first software update in the US with firmware version F731USQS1AWH3, and it is available on Metro PCS and T-Mobile networks. The Galaxy Z Fold 5's carrier-locked version has received a new update with firmware version F946USQS1AWH3. These new updates bring the August 2023 security patch that fixes over 74 security vulnerabilities found in Samsung devices.
Since this is just a security and maintenance release, don't expect it to bring any new features or performance improvements. If you have a Galaxy Z Flip 5 or Galaxy Z Fold 5 in the US, you can now check for the new software update by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping Download and install. You can also download the newest firmware file from our firmware database and flash it manually.
Samsung debuted the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 with Android 13-based One UI 5.1.1 onboard. The company is expected to bring the Android 14-based One UI 6.0 update to these foldable phones within the next few weeks, and there are rumors of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 getting access to the One UI 6.0 beta program soon.
