A few days ago, it was reported that Samsung would one-up its rivals Motorola and OPPO by offering a much bigger cover display on its upcoming Galaxy Z Flip smartphone. Some design concepts of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 were published, revealing how the smartphone might look. It showcased a dual-screen setup on the outside. But now, a slightly tweaked design has appeared on the internet.
Technizo Concept has published fresh design concept renders of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 in collaboration with YouTuber Super Roader. The new design showcases the Galaxy Z Flip 5 with flat sides and a much bigger cover display with a squarer aspect ratio. Reliable tipster Ice Universe has confirmed that Samsung has indeed equipped the Galaxy Z Flip 5 with a squarer, 3.14-inch cover display. This bigger screen would make it much easier to check out notifications, turn on/off quick setting toggles, use widgets, and view other important information such as date and time.
Galaxy Z Flip 5's bigger cover display will boost your productivity even when the phone is closed
It isn't clear whether Samsung would allow users to use full-blown apps directly on the cover display, similar to the Motorola RAZR. But if it does, the phone would be much more helpful even when folded and closed. The upcoming phone also features an entirely new, water-droplet-shaped hinge that makes the foldable screen's crease less visible and helps the phone fold completely flat. It is reported that Samsung has made the Z Flip 5 an IPX8-rated phone despite the new hinge design, something most Chinese smartphone brands haven't achieved.
The South Korean firm seems to continue with a dual-camera setup for the Galaxy Z Flip 5. The phone will reportedly feature a bigger 12MP primary camera sensor, hopefully offering improved image and video quality, especially in low-light conditions. However, a sub-50MP resolution would mean that it won't feature 8K video recording, which is present in the Galaxy S23 lineup. The device would most likely use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 For Galaxy processor, but it remains to be seen if Samsung has increased the battery capacity or charging speed.
