The Galaxy Z Flip 6 is a giant leap forward for Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip lineup of foldable phones. It’s packed with various upgrades that make it feel like a true flagship.Summarize in one-click with Galaxy AI
The camera experience has arguably received the most important upgrade. Gone is the 12MP camera sensor that Samsung had been using since the first Galaxy Z Flip. The Flip 6 boasts a 50MP primary camera, the same one that is used on devices like the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy S24.
The new camera sensor brings improved picture quality in all lighting conditions. And while the Flip 6 lacks a telephoto camera like its predecessors, it can take better snaps at 2x zoom, both in the standard photo mode and the portrait mode, thanks to the higher megapixel count.
Samsung has made improvements to video recording as well. In addition to better video quality in general, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is the first Flip that can record 4K videos at 60 fps on all cameras.
What about 8K video recording? Is that available on the Galaxy Z Flip 6? Well, while a 50MP camera has the number of megapixels needed to record 8K videos, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is limited to 4K videos. Samsung has not officially explained why this is the case. However, it's likely due to thermal constraints.
Galaxy Z Flip 6 records videos at a maximum of 4K resolution
The Flip 6 is the first phone in the series to boast a vapor chamber cooling system. That helps it run at lower temperatures when pushed to its limits compared to previous models. But it is still a compact clamshell foldable, so despite a cooling system that’s bigger than larger phones like the Galaxy S23 Ultra, the Flip 6 hits higher temperatures when used aggressively.
Samsung probably couldn’t ensure the Galaxy Z Flip 6 stays within accepted thermal parameters when recording 8K videos and decided to restrict it to 4K videos. And, honestly, we don’t think it’s a big deal.
On top of generating more heat, 8K videos take up a lot of storage space while not offering enough of a jump in quality over 4K videos to justify the bigger file sizes. They also drain the battery at a considerably faster rate.
If you can look past the lack of 8K recording, there's plenty to like about the Flip 6. Watch our video review above or check out our detailed review for more details. To buy the phone, click the link below.
