Update: It seems the battery capacities reported in this article were inaccurate and the Galaxy Z Flip 6 will have a 300 mAh larger battery than its predecessor, as was revealed earlier this year.

Original story follows:

Samsung's next clamshell foldable phone may not have a substantially larger battery than its predecessor. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 is set to official in less than two months with several upgrades over the Galaxy Z Flip 5, including the latest Snapdragon processor and a higher-resolution rear camera.

Galaxy Z Flip 6 battery upgrade: Smaller than expected, but still sizeable

A larger battery is also going to be a part of the package. Leaks have suggested the Flip 6 will have a rated battery capacity of around 3,887 mAh, the same as the base Galaxy S24 model. However, new information has surfaced this week through a couple of regulatory certifications that Samsung recently managed to secure, and the reality may be slightly different.

Samsung's foldable phones come with dual-cell batteries, and at the beginning of this year, the Korean giant was testing 1,097 mAh and 2,887 mAh batteries for the Flip 6. That would have made for a combined rated capacity of 3,880 mAh and a typical capacity, which is what Samsung officially advertises, of 4,000 mAh.

But the final product will have 1,000 mAh and 2,790 mAh batteries—for a total of 3,790 mAh—according to a pre-shipment inspection (PSI) certificate highlighted by the folks over at MySmartPrice. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 has a rated capacity of 3,591 mAh so the Flip 6's battery upgrade will still be a sizeable one (~200 mAh), but we would be lying if we said we aren't a little disappointed that Samsung isn't going the extra mile.

As for charging, it will max out at 25W like existing Galaxy Z Flip models. Not that we were expecting or hoping for anything faster, as 25W is more than enough for battery capacities of up to 4,000 mAh. Out of the many devices Samsung will unveil at its next Unpacked, the Galaxy Watch 7 may be the only one to bring an improvement in charging speeds.
