New renders have now surfaced online which show that Samsung may indeed be making a change to the Galaxy Z Flip 7's cover display. However, the change would make it look a lot like Motorola's Razr foldable phones than any of the previous Z Flip models.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 and 6 have a folder-style cover display, where the two camera lenses are positioned just above where the panel is tapered. Motorola's approach is to have a fuller cover display with the camera lenses embedded in between.
This is precisely the look Samsung appears to be going for with the Galaxy Z Flip 7, if these renders are to be believed. This would also mean that the panel is going to be larger, with a report suggesting that it's going to measure in at 4-inches. For reference, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 has a 3.4-inch panel.
The user experience would only be marginally better since a portion of the panel would be obscured by the camera lenses, but it's not like Samsung couldn't make this change. It's been two years since the cover display got any meaningful upgrade, and with little room elsewhere to switch things up design-wise, this may have been a convenient way out of the dilemma.
Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Flip 7 in the second half of this year, potentially around July or August.
