Samsung's new foldable phones are now available for pre-order, and one of the most exciting upgrades — at least for the Galaxy Z Flip 4 — is a larger battery with faster charging. How do charging speeds for the upgraded Z Flip 4 compare to the Galaxy Z Fold 4? Let's find out.

We tested the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 charging speeds side-by-side in a new video, and the results might surprise you. But before we move on, here's a quick look at the hardware specifications and our test setup.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is equipped with a 4,400mAh dual battery, while the Galaxy Z Flip 4 clocks in at 3,700mAh. Both phones top out at 25W super-fast charging, and we tested the charging speeds of both devices using an official 45W Samsung wall charger. Evidently, the phones still charged at their maximum 25W capacity despite the higher 45W limit on the charging brick.

Galaxy Z Fold 4 vs Galaxy Z Flip 4 charging speeds

Given the hardware specifications above, you would think that the Galaxy Z Flip 4 should reach 100% battery charge before the Galaxy Z Fold 4. But surprisingly enough, that's not the case.

As we demonstrate in our new video below, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 finished recharging its battery first, in roughly 1 hour and 23 minutes. The Galaxy Z Flip 4, despite its smaller battery, came in second after reaching a full charge in about 1 hour and 28 minutes.

The Galaxy Z Flip 4 did get ahead around the 60-minute mark when its battery charge was sitting at 77% compared to 75% for the Z Fold 4. However, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 regained the lead and finished roughly 5 minutes ahead of the Z Flip 4, despite having a larger battery and the same 25W charging speed.

It's hard to believe, but you can refer to our latest video below for all the details you need. Are you surprised by these Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 battery charging speed test results? Leave a comment below, and if you're interested in learning about the Galaxy Watch 5 series' charging capabilities, we tested both Samsung watches in a separate video. Make sure you check that out and stay tuned for more.
