One of the major differences between the Galaxy Z Flip and the Galaxy Fold is that the former will be more attainable. While not cheap by any stretch of the imagination, at least it's not going to cost $2,000 like the original foldable smartphone.
Granted, that does mean that the specs won't be entirely flagship level, but that may not really bother the demographic that Samsung is targeting with the Galaxy Z Flip. It appears that Samsung will also have a number of high fashion collaborations for its clamshell foldable.
Galaxy Z Flip X Thom Browne may not be the only high fashion tie-up
According to a report out of South Korea, Samsung has been working with US-based designer brand Thom Browne (owned by Italy's Ermenegildo Zegna Group) on a Galaxy Z Flip X Thom Browne collaboration. A cryptic teaser was posted on Thom Browne's official Instagram account which featured the logos of both companies without any explanation.
It's unclear how the Galaxy Z Flip X Thom Browne edition will be different compared to the regular Galaxy Z Flip, but it goes without saying that the changes will be cosmetic only. Nothing will be changed under the hood. This is essentially like Apple's collaboration with French high fashion icon Hermès for the Apple Watch Hermès edition. It offers customers a range of cases and bands from the brand in addition to exclusive watch faces that go with the overall aesthetic.
The report mentions that Samsung may have similar tie-ups with other fashion brands to cement the Galaxy Z Flip's image as a fashionable accessory. This will drive up the price, though. The Galaxy Z Flip X Thom Browne edition is reportedly going to cost 3 million won ($2,500), almost double that of the regular model.
If this is indeed happening, we're likely going to hear about Samsung's collaboration with Thom Browne at the Unpacked event on February 11.
