Earlier today, Samsung announced that it will roll out three major Android updates to its premium and some mid-range smartphones. The company has promised to release three major Android version updates to smartphones in the Galaxy S10, Galaxy Note 10, Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy Fold, Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Z Flip, Galaxy A51, Galaxy A71, Galaxy A90, Galaxy Tab S6, and the Galaxy Tab S7 series. All these devices would receive Android 13 in the future.
An interesting device included in the official list is the Galaxy Z Fold 2. It was widely being expected that the South Korean tech giant would only release a 5G variant of the Galaxy Z Fold 2. Even during the Galaxy Unpacked 2020 event, the company didn't specify if the second-generation Galaxy Fold would come in an LTE-only variant. However, if Samsung's list is anything to go by, there might be an LTE-only variant of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 after all. Last year, Samsung released LTE and 5G versions of the Galaxy Fold.
Qualcomm reportedly makes it necessary to include a 5G modem in all smartphones that use the Snapdragon 865/865+ processor. Since the Galaxy Z Fold 2 exclusively uses the Snapdragon 865+, we are not sure why Samsung would want to pay a premium for a 5G modem and then end up not using it. Even in markets like India, where 5G cellular networks have not been rolled out, enabling 5G connectivity in a device would make users feel that their device is future-ready.
There's also a possibility of Samsung mistakenly mentioning the Galaxy Z Fold 2 and that there's no LTE-only version of the new foldable mobile device. However, we'll only know that for sure sometime next month. What are your thoughts about the Galaxy Z Fold 2 and 5G networks? Let us know in the comments section below.
