Samsung fans are eagerly looking forward to the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4. The company made significant improvements to its foldable smartphones last year. It would be interesting to see how it improves them even further in 2022.
Expect Samsung to launch these devices in the second half of the year. Since that's only a few months away, it's unsurprising to hear now that the company has started mass producing various components for its next foldable lineup.
Mass production of finish devices due next month
Samsung has reportedly started mass production of the core components for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4. The company is expected to start mass production of the devices from next month or early July.
Reports suggest that Samsung expects to ship over 10 million units combined of its new foldable smartphones. It's quite possible that the bulk of these units will be accounted for by the Galaxy Z Flip 4 as it's the more popular device. Samsung is said to expect a 70% and 30% split in shipments for the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4, respectively.
If the company is able to ship 10 million new foldables this year, this will provide foldable smartphones with a 1% penetration rate in the global smartphone market for the very first time. It will be a major milestone as foldables still account for a tiny fraction of the entire market. Samsung has been working had at pushing foldable smartphones.
Reports mention that compared to the approximate 20% profit margin that Samsung has on the Galaxy S series, it opts for a 15% margin on the foldables to keep prices within reach of consumers.
